IKEA-Sonos Speaker Lamp just got a whole lot better

We love the better acoustics, standard E27 bulb socket and changeable shades.

Just a few months ago, IKEA and Sonos unveiled a picture frame speaker. Now, they’re at it again — giving a much needed upgrade to the SYMFONISK range they launched in 2019.

When the original SYMFONISK table lamp speaker debuted in 2019, it was met with a lot of excitement. It marked their first collaboration and the first time we saw a lamp that played music.

Two years later, as hoped, the new version of the SYMFONISK table lamp speaker promises an even better sound experience and updated, customizable designs.

“Since launching the first SYMFONISK table lamp speaker, we learned a lot about how and where they are being used. For example, a lot of people use the lamp speaker on a nightstand. Which led us to create a new, slightly smaller lamp base. We’re now also offering customers more design choices, making the lamp speaker a better fit for their individual homes”, says Stjepan Begic, product owner at IKEA of Sweden.

“By integrating a speaker into a table lamp, we can save space, decrease clutter, and create atmosphere with both light and sound,” he adds.

Shade is customisable

The new SYMFONISK table lamp speaker allows greater personalization as the product is now divided into two parts. IKEA sells the SYMFONISK speaker lamp base and the SYMFONISK speaker lamp shade separately.

Customers can choose between a black or white version of the lamp base.

IKEA offers two lamp shades in different styles and colours: a textile or glass lampshade, in either black or white.

The best news? The new lamp supports a broader range of light bulbs thanks to the added E26/E27 socket.

A check on the IKEA USA website shows the speaker base selling for $140. While the black or white glass shade is tagged at $39. The textile version is cheaper at $29.

IKEA made a smaller lamp with a bigger speaker

Sound wise, the new SYMFONISK table lamp speaker promises a wider and more room-filling sound. The speaker is redesigned with a completely new acoustic architecture with the addition of a custom waveguide. That simply means it better disperses the speaker’s sound. So, no matter where you are in the room, the audio should be just as pleasant to your ears.

The lamp speaker connects over WiFi and can be used as the only sound source in a room. It can also be connected with other Sonos products, including those from the SYMFONISK range. As all SYMFONISK products, this speaker is also part of the Sonos system, easily connecting listeners to more than 100 streaming services.

Starting October 12, 2021, the new SYMFONISK table lamp speaker will be available in IKEA US stores and on IKEA-USA.com, and select markets in Europe before it reaches all IKEA markets in 2022.
