This IKEA Home Tour on Reddit Is Giving Off Strong Design Vibes

One of my favorite things to do when I visit an IKEA is wander through the showroom. (Isn’t it everyone’s?) I love seeing the products in action and how they come together to create effortless spaces that reflect a variety of styles.

Recently, poking around an IKEA subreddit brought me to a post from Lalitya Blue that made me feel like I was back on the showroom floor. It’s dubbed “Everything IKEA,” (although there are a few non-IKEA pieces thrown into the mix).

The cover pic showcases a sleek design that looks straight out of an IKEA catalog. It’s full of inspiration for anyone who wants to create a fun, functional space while staying within an affordable price point.

So, are you ready to take an IKEA home tour? Let’s go!

IKEA Home Tour Furniture Highlights

The furniture in the room serves as foundational pieces, anchoring the space and defining clear zones. Overall, there’s a work zone, lounge area, and dining space, with storage throughout and plenty of style.

The dining table, dining chairs, and side cabinet are among the few pieces in the room that are not from IKEA. However, Lalitya Blue did an amazing job sourcing items that blend seamlessly with their IKEA-focused design.

A lot of comments ask about the storage shelving in the room, which is IKEA, but it’s the discontinued SVALNAS series. Therefore, if you were interested in recreating this look, you’d need to find some alternatives or try to score some pieces secondhand.

As for the rest of the furniture? It’s all IKEA, and currently, it’s still available from the Swedish superstore if you find something you fancy.

KIVIK Sofa

$839.00

One of the largest pieces in the room is the comfy KIVIK sofa. This couch comes in all sorts of colors, so it’s easy to find a shade that goes with your current palette. You can even remove the armrests to mix and match the sofa with other pieces from the KIVIK series, creating a variety of seating arrangements.

GLADHÖJDEN Adjustable Desk

Lalitya Blue got creative with their work area, fashioning their office space from several different pieces. They start with the height-adjustable GLADHÖJDEN desk and, underneath it, use a desktop from the old SVALNAS system. IKEA’s KRILLE legs with casters ($80 for four) add more flexibility, making it easy to set up a workstation anywhere you need it.

DYVLINGE Swivel Chair

$199.00

The DYVLINGE swivel chair is an IKEA classic brought back to life. In this home tour, it’s vibrant orange, but you can choose black, beige, or bright green.

Lalitya Blue positions the chair in a way that makes the most of its swivel. It faces the TV, dining area, or sofa, so anyone sitting there can easily focus on whatever they need.

KVISTBRO Storage Table

$29.99

The KVISTBRO storage table turns out to be a great mini coffee table without taking up much visual space, thanks to its open sides. It also provides extra storage, making it multifunctional. It’s perfect for a few throw blankets when you feel like getting nice and cozy.

$29.99

Part of successful design is knowing how to look at something and imagine all the things it could be. For example, the LACK coffee table doesn’t have to be just a coffee table. In this space, two LACK tables go side by side to become an open, streamlined media console.

Lighting by IKEA

A vital component of any design is lighting. Not only is it necessary for functionality, but it also helps set the mood for your space. When you choose light fixtures, you get an opportunity to make a statement, which is what this Reddit user did beautifully.

RINGSTA Pendant Lamp

$24.99

The RINGSTA lamp shade serves as the main lighting source for the dining area. Its bold, black-and-white stripes create a stylish focal point. Pair it with the HAVSDJUP cord set ($12) to create the perfect pendant. You get to enjoy seeing the shade twice, thanks to the mirror’s smart positioning.

SKYMNINGEN White Pendant Lamp

$149.99

In the living room area, the SKYMNINGEN pendant lamp serves as the main light source. It’s a beautiful, eye-catching piece that complements the bold stripes of the RINGSTA. It gives off a softer vibe, which works well with the lounge zone.

IKEA Accessories That Stand Out Splendidly

Furniture and lighting lay the foundation and set the mood, but decor and accessories define a room’s personality. In this home tour, you’ll see plenty of plant pots, candle holders, frames, vases, and greenery.

Many are from IKEA, including the discontinued KORSMON memo board. Here’s a closer look at the ones that really stand out in the space.

RASKOG Utility Cart

White three-tier rolling cart with built-in wheels and vertical supports, used for storage or organization.

$39.99

The RÅSKOG utility cart is tucked in next to the desk, expanding the work zone, but offering portability, too. Storing items on a wheeled cart makes it easy to reposition them wherever you need them.

But you don’t need to use it for office supplies. Think outside the box and turn it into a crafting cart, laundry helper, or even a rolling herb garden.

GREJSIMOJS Cat Jars

Two cartoon-style cat figurines, one black and white and the other orange and white, sitting upright side by side.

$7.99

Look closely in the back corner, and you’ll spot a cute kitty lounging on their cat condo. If Lalitya Blue is a cat lover, then it’s no surprise that they’ve included the GREJSIMOJS cat-shaped storage jar in orange and black in their space. These jars are an adorable and playful way to store small trinkets in style.

KÄLLARHALS Orange Vase

Bright orange stacked rubber chew toy with four bulbous sections stacked vertically.

$19.99

Bring in some greenery or fresh flowers using the tall KÄLLARHALS orange vase, or let it serve as standalone decor as it does in this IKEA home tour. The vivid color ties in nicely with the orange of the DYVLINGE chair and cat jars, spreading the hue around the room to keep the eye moving.

RÖDEBY Armrest Tray

$19.99

The RÖDEBY armrest tray provides an excellent solution when there’s limited space for a side table. Toss it over the arm of your couch, and you have the perfect place for a drink or bowl of snacks. It works especially well on the wide arms of the KIVIK sofa.

TROMMA Wall Clock

$4.99

Always know what time it is with the TROMMA wall clock. Its simple design fits in nicely with all kinds of decor and styles, and the punched-out numbers open up all sorts of possibilities. You can put colored paper behind it, try a light-up TROMMA clock hack, or leave it as is to keep things subtle.

LINDBYN Mirror

Tall, full-length mirror with rounded top and bottom edges, viewed head-on

$99.99

In this room, the mirror has a gold frame, but on the IKEA site, the LINDBYN oval mirror is only available in black. I am not certain whether the gold was discontinued, whether this is just a very similar mirror, or whether it’s paint.

However, the shape and style are just right for this design. Plus, the large mirror helps reflect light around the room and visually open up the space.

What Does This IKEA Design Cost?

Based on the main IKEA pieces in the space, you’re looking at roughly $2,000 for the items you can currently get at IKEA. Plus extra for the odds and ends, including frames, candle holders, etc.

Then you need to add the dining chairs and table, side cabinet, and the discontinued SVALNAS pieces (or alternatives). The creator also mentions that they plan to get a couple of rugs after several comments suggested it. So, I’m thinking you would end up around the $3,000 to $3,500 mark for the entire space? What do you think?
