AKURUM and SEKTION incompatible

Help, I bought a used AKURUM kitchen not realizing I couldn’t fill in the gaps with SEKTION… please tell me this can be hacked.

Does anyone know in what ways are they incompatible?

I know they are not exactly the same height…ok we can build a custom toe kick to adjust the heights to match.

I know they are not the same width…why does this matter?

I know the doors don’t match exactly in color…ok not that picky…..hence the USED kitchen.

So what else am I missing…hope someone has installed both Akurum and Sektion? Or better yet… has someone MIX N MATCHED with success?!

    HOW do you retrofit the size and leg size from old tie kicks..? Mine are damaged from water NOW I need new ones THAT FIT AND CLIP!

    This may be too late.

    We need the exact same fix because the Ikea fridge made by Whirlpool busted. They do make the same height refrigerator (if you take off the hinge covers but don’t if you want an ice maker. Anyway instead of a 69″ tall refrigerator we wanted a 71″ so bought a shorter cabinet.

    It looked bleak for awhile but it does work. We used the hinges as directed for installing directly on bolt (not a rail) but don’t use the recommended plastic insert as it makes the cabinet lean forward. We took the plastic insert out and voila!

    The cabinet is a bit wider than the old cabinet, just a hair but we had some extra space so it worked. I hope it worked for you.

  3. Does anyone know if the suspension rails changed? We have a 15 year old akurum kitchen and I want to replace only my refrigerator cabinet to one of the new shorter options (cannot not find a new fridge short enough for my current layout).

  5. I’m in the same boat as everyone else but am a bit confused if things will fit or not.

    I have an old 30″ x 24″ AKURUM cabinet with shelves in a dark brown/espresso colour. I want to replace the bottom with a high MAXIMERA drawer and two smaller cabinet tops. I have pipes running through the cabinet so can only do 1 drawer. Similar to:

    I have a second 15″ cabinet I want to replace with all drawers.

    Has anybody had experience with MAXIMERA drawers fitting into an AKURUM base? Still not sure what to do about the drawer/cabinet fronts to match my existing ones.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  7. I need to do the same thing. For hardware, you might browse the Blum catalog/website as they offer tons of different hinges as well as drawer parts.

  8. Does anyone know if I can replace the doors of the Akurum with the Sektion – are they the same size???

  9. I need to know if I can make my 2-15″ Akurum doors for onto a 30″ Sektion wall cabinet. Not worried about inside fittings…

  10. I have drilled holes for a Rationell drawer into Sektion cabinets and I’m sure you can do the opposite.

    I’ve also used a Sektion drawer front and drilled holes to use with my Rationell drawer. If your kitchen is Akurum Adel Medium Brown the new Sektion Grimslov matches perfectly. I have a 10 year old kitchen, added the new drawer front and it seems to be a perfect match.

    I’m thinking if you’re willing to drill holes on the cabinetry you can retrofit.

  11. I have a kitchen comprised of both- I believe there is a difference in the hinge systems.
    I was in Ikea yesterday asking about removing shelves (what was I thinking?) out of alarum bottom cabinet and instead replacing it with the sliding basket drawers, dimensionally I am able to do it- and they mentioned because no hinges are necessary than its no problem.

    1. I’m trying to do the same, but the inside cabinet holes on Akurum don’t match the hardware on the track of the Sekton. Have you tried drilling new holes?

  12. I have wondered the same thing. We installed a new kitchen less than 5 years ago and now if something happens we will have to replace the whole thing. None of the inner parts are compatible either, if I understand. This is very frustrating!
