Materials: Droppar of various size

Description: To make a porthole very cheap in a concrete-to-face view wall. Use “Droppar” jar, put inside the cap some silicone to make it very well sealed. In a concrete wall you have to design on the outer board the exact position of the jar, then tie to the metallic armor of the concrete, when the concrete is being cast, be careful not to cast it upon the jar directly, the aggregate could break the glass. Do not vibrate the concrete but beat the outside of the armor boards but not in the jar position.

After having disarmed the wall, put a veil of silicone in the outside perimeter of the cap.

  1. This is a combination of arts and skills. The construction is so unique. Furthermore, the idea of putting whole of bottles on the wall is perfect.

I also started with the idea of bottles in the wall, but talking to the carpenter I have seen that the greatest difficulty is closing the wooden frame, I had to have an object that had the size of the wall so that the armour tables could close above. otherwise if you want to use objects thicker than the wall you need to cut the boards with the same shape of the object (bottle or anything else) so that the object come out with the armor increase costs and installation times.

  4. Awesome! I was looking for an improvement over wine bottles for a creative DIY glass block alternative.

    If you turn them around, could you leave the lid loose and use the cavity for storage as well as admitting light?

  5. Da copiare assolutamente! Trovo che sia un’idea rivoluzionaria…materiali poveri ma con un risultato mooolto elegante. Per il prossimo muro però….osa di più! più barattoli, più luce!!! Naturalmente vogliamo vedere il lavoro finito e dall’interno! Complimenti!!!!

  6. Yes, probably more concrete than ikea hack, but without the ikea jars would not have been possible to do this type of solution. The jar is transparent in the cap and of course on the bottom (the only one that I found completely transparent) and with a beautiful steel finish, so the light can get in an interesting way into an underground garage without the help of real windows (expensive and with a different formal quality). I tryed to find a product with very little cost and can give me the same formal solution.

    Si, probabilmente più cemento che ikea hack, ma senza i barattoli di ikea non sarebbe stato possibile fare questo tipo di soluzione. Il barattolo è trasparente nel tappo e ovviamente anche sul fondo (è l’unico che ho trovato trasparente completamente) e con una bella finitura in acciaio, così la luce può entrare in maniera interessante dentro un garage interrato senza l’ausilio di vere finestre (costose e con una differente qualità formale). Ho girato molto per trovare un prodotto a poco costo e che mi desse le stesse possibilità.

  8. I get it! Yes, you can use any jar, but the Droppar has that cool lid that is flat and a metal ring that is unique. Check the first photo. He’s using the lid as the outside face of the porthole for aesthetics. I’d like to see this when the wall is finished.

    Not as much an Ikea hack as it is a concrete wall hack using an Ikea product.

  11. So you used jars from IKEA to put in a concrete wall. I guess no one else makes jars. To me, this is just like the gun hack. Yes, technically, the jars are from IKEA. But the main item here is the concrete wall-not IKEA. The gun hacker could have used any other threaded knob and the hack would have been the same. Any other jar would have been the same.
