I just removed the pillar as you can see in the picture. The important part of the construction is the angle brace to hold everything in place. I modified the provided angle brace to make this construction. I fixed one end of the brace on the lower front of the “hanging” pillar and the other end on the top of the backside pillar, thus making a fixed construction. Because its wood the construction will work a little over time, especially with heavy loads like this. One tiny adjustment after a few months was enough in my case.
