So this is how I upgraded my simple Poäng chair into a lively, colorful one.

Creating a slipcover for the Poäng armchair may seem daunting at first, but it’s quite manageable once you break it down. Here are the key components to consider:

  1. Foam cushioning
  2. Batting
  3. Two separate compartments
  4. Two zippers
  5. Bias binding
  6. Side A: constructed from a single piece of fabric
  7. Side B: made up of three fabric pieces
  8. Velcro attachments to secure the cushion to the wooden frame

Upon analyzing the structure, it becomes clear that the project is essentially like sewing an oversized pencil case with two compartments. This realization leads to an encouraging thought: if you can sew a pencil case, you have the skills to tackle this cushion cover.

The process involves careful measuring, cutting, and assembling the fabric pieces, incorporating zippers and bias binding where needed. Pay special attention to the different construction of Side A and Side B, and don’t forget to include the Velcro attachments for proper fit on the chair frame.
