Hi all,

This is my first post here. I discovered the site while looking for creative ways to spruce up our Ikea furniture. I didn’t realize there were so many possibilities.

Anyway, my question is about the Billy bookcase. I have the short one and wanted to see if it would be possible to add legs to it. Basically, I’m looking for an angled top plate bracket and tapered legs from Lowe’s. I haven’t seen any examples of people having done this, which is why I wanted to reach out to the community to see if this would be a worthwhile endeavor.

Hi ya,

The bottom of the BILLY bookcase isn’t flat, so you may want to remove the plinth and cut away the extra bits to create a flat bottom. Then reinforce it with a wooden base before adding the plate bracket and legs. For the tall Billy, you may want to secure it to the wall to minimise risk of it toppling over.  ~ Jules
