Our rental home has a large but highly impractical kitchen layout. The area under this window was completely bare so I installed a cost effective kitchen nook which we use for family meals and a kids homework/activity area using an IKEA beech LAGAN worktop (this may now be known as the HAMMARP) and four IKEA BOSSE barstools, all of which I already had. All I needed to purchase was one IKEA GERTON adjustable table leg and a bracket to attach the worktop to the wall.
We lived with the natural wood look for a while but I was never 100% happy with it – I wanted something lighter and brighter. And this is when I embarked on a little paint-dipped hacking action….. see the full story, tutorial and more images here.
You can also take a look at my other IKEA hack – a DIY office desk made from kitchen components which is where I originally used the LAGAN worktop.
