Hackers Help: FYNDIG cabinets with METOD doors?

So I’m going to be moving in August to a completely empty apartment. Even though I’m going to be a renter, here in Italy they mainly rent apartments empty. Without kitchen. That shocked me at first, but after visiting 3000000 apartments I decided I can manage to furnish a kitchen on the cheap. The FYNDIG modular kitchen is so cheap that you can completely furnish a kitchen for less than 220 euros. But is way too plain.

Does anybody know if it’s possible to attach METOD doors to FYNDIG cabinets?

  1. Thank you all forma tour replies. Since I don’t have any tools I don’t think it’s such a good idea for me to try this hack. I visited IKEA recently and apparently METOD cabinets(the most plain ones) are not as expensive as when I was browsing the page. At about 400-500 I can furnish my kitchen. And that way, I’ll change the doors in the future and it won’t be very expensive either.

    It would be interesting if someone tried and posted it here. As for me as a first hack is way too ambitious.

  2. Do they have mod podge in Italy? I’d buy cheap and white, then decoupage something to my liking on the doors.

    Or, now they make some really beautiful temporary wallpaper that could cover the doors.

  5. METOD doors would presumably not fit, as the FYNDIG doors are within the cabinets, while the METOD doors are outside the cabinets, so they are several cm wider. I would not risk cutting them down to size.

    But: you can buy a FYNDIG kitchen consisting of white cabinets with red doors or all bright wood effect decor in Italy -> http://www.ikea.com/it/it/catalog/products/40226686/#/60226685
    it does cost more money than the plain white kitchen, though.

    If the colours are not to your liking, you can still use adhesive foil, or use some good primer and paint it.

  6. Hi there Sofia,

    You would need to do a lot of hacking to make the METOD doors fit the FYNDIG. Here are some of the challenges:

    –The METOD cabinet system is frameless; but FYNDIG cabinets are framed.
    –The hinge system for the two systems is different. METOD uses UTRUSTA but FYNDIG does not.
    –The cabinet box sizes are different. For example, the METOD base oven cabinet is 60 cm wide, but the the FYNDIG cabinet is 63 cm wide. This means the doors are different sizes, too.

    You could cut the doors (this voids the warranty but I’m sure you knew that), and drill for different hinges, but then you still have to figure out fitting doors onto a framed cabinet. So, anything is possible! It will just require a lot of work.
