IKEA items used: LINNMON HIGH GLOSS WHITE TABLE TOP x 2, GERTON ADJUSTABLE LEGS X 6

I hacked together two of the LINNMON table tops, joining them on their long edge to create one big standing desk.

Unfortunately, there is a wobble to the desk that is very annoying. (NOTE: This also happens to my standard 4 leg, 1 table top LINNMON desk) I’m not sure if it’s just the carpeting. I haven’t been able to find any good hacks on cross-bracing the legs to limit the movement.

Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated!

  2. I had the same problem with 4 legs on a timber floor. The table just isn’t very steady and had a side to side wobble if it’s not braced against a corner. I ended up cutting my losses and getting a pair of Finnvards.

  5. I have the Linnmon and Nipen combination and it also wobbles. The way the legs attach to the table top looks clean, but it’s just not sturdy. The only solution I’ve found is to get large L brackets and attach the table top to the wall.

  6. If this is happening with another desk, it sounds like your floor (not the carpet) is out of level. (You didn’t mention if the 4 leg desk had the same style legs.) To check, turn your desk 90deg. If the wobble stays in the same direction as it was originally, it’s the floor; if it follows the desk then it’s the desk. In either case, since the GERTON is adjustable, loosen one of the legs in the loose direction and pull it out further until it’s snug and re-tighten. The adjustment marking on these aren’t exactly precision, so if you are setting it to align exactly with the markings, you may be running into a tolerance issue (where one leg is marked shorter or longer).

  7. My girlfriend’s HISSMON+ADILS combination has the same problem on carpet. We work around it by snugging it up against a corner, but I have not heard of a freestanding solution that doesn’t involve swapping legs for trestles.
