I created a fabric paneled version of the Ikea Tarva dresser. Here is how I did it.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE MAKEOVER –
- 1″x 2″x 8′- quantity 3. I used furring strips.
- 1/4″ x 3/4″ screen moulding – need around 40′
- Burlap – 2 yards
- New Knobs
- Spray adhesive
- Primer, Paint and Poly.
- Staple Gun
- Brad nailer
Step 1 – Assemble the 6-drawer Ikea Tarva dresser. I wanted to add more definition to the sides so the drawers were better framed out. I used 1 x 2’s and nailed them to both the sides.
Step 2 – Give a light sanding to the entire dresser. Prime and Paint the entire dresser. Also paint the molding (after cutting to size)
Step 3 – On the drawers, I used silver spray paint and gave a few coats.
Step 4 – Cut burlap fabric to size of the drawer and glue using spray adhesive. The silver paint from behind sparkles through the gaps of the burlap.
Step 5 – Use screen molding and frame out each of the drawers using 5/8″ brad nails in the staple gun.
Step 6 – Add knobs
Enjoy!
