I purchased a DAGOTTO footrest, black.

Nifty little thing, but too short for me and my slightly too tall desk. Any ideas to make this taller??

Hi Ian

How about cutting a piece of wood in the same dimensions as the faceplate and then glueing it on top of the footplate? If you’re not looking for a big leap in height, it should do the trick.

Get your local hardware shop to make the cuts for you, if you don’t have the toolsir?t=ikeahacker 20&l=ur2&o=1. Just bring along the footrest as a template.

You may also sand and paint the board before glueing it down.

Let us know if that works.

  1. Pool noodle is a good idea but remove rubber “bumpers” add the noodle and reattach the rubber bumpers or floor protectors whatever they are called technically.

  2. Try one of those styrofoam pool noodles…remove the rubber pads from the metal, save them or if you can’t save them buy something similar, like rubber floor protectors for furniture. Cut the noodle in two pieces, slice one side and fit it over the metal pieces. Attach rubber protector to keep it steady and to add height if needed. This is similar to the person who suggested pipe insulation but the styrofoam noodle is firmer.

  3. I took a wooden box for 2 wine bottles. Turned it, glued a peace of wood on the back and secured it with some nails. Painted it, glued some pieces of felt under it and ready.
    If it is not high enough, you make your own frame from scraps of wood. And if you want it sloped for any reason,, then you saw the sides in the wished inclination.

  4. Two lengths of 2×3 attached with copper plumbing pipe clamp to the bottom of the item would do the trick.

  5. How about just attaching sticky-back velcro to both the stand and a favourite cushion. That way the cushion could come off easily to wash and would be nice and cosy if you are working barefoot…..?!

  6. I’d go get some pipe insulation at the hardware store and cut lengths of bars that rest on the floor. Good luck 🙂

To lift it 2.25″, you’ll need another footstool (just the wooden panel part), and 4 sections of wooden dowel, maybe 0.75″ in diameter, and 1.5″ long (or something similar – pipe sections, coupling nuts/connector nuts, etc. This may be a good option: https://www.americanradiosupply.com/heavy-duty-double-male-3-8-24-thread-nut-for-stick-antenna-1-5-long/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwufrybbl2wIVF9NkCh1_Eg5UEAkYDCABEgLqnPD_BwE if you can get nuts with matching threads). Lay the two panels on top of one another, and clamp, so the holes line up. Drill pilot holes into (measured, marked) positions near the four corners, then attach together with screws or nuts (countersink if necessary) with your dowel, pipe, or coupler in the middle. Basically you’re adding 4 feet to the top of your top panel, and adding a second panel.

    Alternatively, get the second panel, then cut a wooden panel, 1.5″ or 1.75″ thick, about 4″ smaller all around (or a rectangular wooden frame the same height – 1x2s will work for this). Paint if desired. Attach with liquid nails or wood glue to the top of the original panel (and/or nails or screws), then sandwich the second panel on top and attach.

  8. GET 4 PIECES OF DOWEL, 2 1/2-4 ” INCHES LONGER THAN THE 4 SUPPORTS. USE A HACKSAW TO CUT THE 4 SUPPORTS, INSTALL THE DOWLING INSIDE THE SUPPORTS. wHEN THE HEIGHT AND THE ANGLE SUITS U, USE CAULK, OR GLUE TO HOLD IN PLACE. HTH

  9. I’m actually considering adding a metal tubing to the joints using supplies I already have from old unusued rods. These can be added to joints and then bent slightly so that it doesn’t add too much width to the bottom of the stool (which could interfere with my chair)

  10. A pool Noodle wrapped around the bars (wear they hit the floor) would raise it about an inch. You’d have to coat the pool noodle with a Car inner tube, or something rubber to provide a non slip surface.

  11. Hey, Ian here… That’s a good idea, except that I need to raise it about 2.25 inches, which would be a huge piece of wood… Also, I’d really like to maintain the minimalism of this item…

  12. You could also add 4 small legs, one to each of the top corners of the panel, and then add another panel on top of that. Just make sure you leave enough room so that the new panel and the protruding part of the metal frame don’t interfere with each other. If you want it to look original, you could buy a second footstool and use the panel from that as the new top panel.

  13. That’s a good idea, but I need it’s to be lifted about 2.25 inches… Also I’d rather not lose the non-slip surface of the foot stool.

  14. I have nothing t add to Jules’ suggestion, it sounds like the best idea for a small lift.
    If you need a higher lift, you could build a platform for it with a lip so it wont slide off.
