Understanding how much more time we spend indoors these days, IKEA has launched its first, affordable air purifier.
$54.99. That’s the price of clean air at home.
The FÖRNUFTIG air purifier creates healthier air by filtering away gases and particles. These can be pollutants, chemicals, pollen, dust and odors. The combination of a Hepa 12 filter that cleans away particles and a carbon filter that removes gases gives you an advanced and efficient air-purifying solution.
“All homes contain particles in different shapes, and today when we spend more and more time indoor, they can lead to, among other things, allergic reactions and bad sleep,” says David Wahl, the Product Designer at IKEA who came up with the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier.
But unlike other clunky purifiers in the market, IKEA’s blends right in with the rest of the decor.
He adds, “when we develop at IKEA, we also do it from a home furnishing perspective, and we want FÖRNUFTIG to blend into the home. That’s why you can hang it on the wall, put it on the floor or use the handle to move your air purifier to another room.”
IKEA air purifier with a small footprint
It looks strikingly similar to the ENEBY bluetooth speaker, with its boxy design and fabric front. The ENEBY used to come in grey too.
At the moment, the fabric front of the FÖRNUFTIG comes in only one colour — grey. However, the frame itself is available in black or white, so you can pick the one that works best for the look of your home.
It’s a lightweight, just a shade under 7 lbs. And measures 18″ tall, 12″ wide and 4″ deep. Pretty easy to tuck into any corner of the room. Alternatively, it can be wall-mounted, both horizontally or vertically, to free up precious floor space.
Nevertheless, due to its size, it’s best for smaller spaces that are 85 – 105 square feet.
IKEA recommends replacing the filters within 6 months. The carbon filter retails at $9.99 and the HEPA filter at $5.49.
It is currently available in the USA and China. No news yet on the roll out to other countries.
