Since launching in January 2025, this snap-together storage range has been quietly conquering DIY forums—one hack at a time.
The IKEA LÅDMAKARE range offers a straightforward way to create almost endless configurations without a lot of measuring or cutting. People also love the mix of open and closed storage.
Will it replace the ever-popular BILLY bookcase? Probably not. But one thing is for sure, we will be seeing more LÅDMAKARE hacks to come.
Case in point: Reddit user GrantDigital, who hacked together a custom-configured LÅDMAKARE setup that transformed their boring TV wall into something way more functional. Plus, lots of storage!

IKEA LÅDMAKARE TV Wall Hack: Modular Storage Meets Entertainment Center

- 4 IKEA LÅDMAKARE cabinets with sliding doors
- 1 x 12 pine boards
- Saw

- LED lights (optional)
1. Build the LÅDMAKARE Components

Assemble all of the IKEA pieces according to the accompanying instructions. Position everything where desired, then install beginning with the first side panel.
Secure it to the wall, then work across from there, fitting your various components. IKEA showcases a tutorial video on the side panel page that explains how to install the LÅDMAKARE system.
2. Add the Center Supports

Once everything was in place, GrantDigital cut out the center to create a space for the TV. They used pine boards to build supports for the section, including the upright bar, which lines up with the middle braces.
Someone asked if this step was needed, and the answer was a resounding yes. The extra support prevents unwanted sag in the center, adds durability, and also covers up exposed pressboard.
The creator suggested that if they had used a stronger wood, such as oak, they likely could have forgone the middle bar, but they were focused on keeping costs low. They plan to stain the boards to match the rest of the unit, but they haven’t gotten around to that part yet.
3. That’s It?!
It seems a lot more involved than it is because it’s such a large piece, but the bulk of this IKEA hack is installing the LÅDMAKARE pieces. For exact measurements, extra tips, or advice on what to do differently if you decide to take on the project, the hacker invites you to reach out and ask! They’re happy to help!
They also provided the exact configuration that they designed using IKEA’s planning tools.
How much did this hack cost? The IKEA pieces are $890, and you’d likely spend another $30 to $50 on other supplies.
Changing Up the TV Nook

A few suggestions for the TV nook were to paint the new framing a contrasting color or stain it, and to add a back panel using a few uprights. The hacker applauded the idea, saying they planned to stain the framing to match.
They also want to paint the upright bar the same color as their wall, so it will essentially disappear. Finally, they added LED lights for a bit of visual interest.

These variations are what’s so fun about DIY: everyone can add their personal touches to a hack to recreate it into something that fits their style. What would you do?
