Materials: 
– TERTIAL desk lamp
– Exogear Exomount car holder
– Mounting tape
– LED Reading lamp (optional)

Description: I’m too lazy to hold my E-Reader in bed 🙂
– Unplug the lamp!
– Cut and remove electrical wiring from TERTIAL. Hint: To remove the bulb socket, you need to lift two opposite tabs on the outside of the socket, but it’s optional. And be careful of the sharp edges.

– Line the clamping area with anti-slip tape, then attach Exomount there.
– Attach E-Reader (or small tablet) to the Exomount suction cup.
– You can store reading glasses etc where the socket used to be.

PS: Maximum gadget weight ~300g

  1. am really bummed this will not work for a kindle fire so far as I can figure out. the issue isn’t actually the arm of the lamp, but the exomount. the ball and socket won’t maintain any angle and treats the kindle like a dead weight.

    if anyone figures this out, lemme know. as it happens, I wall mounted my tertial using another ikea hack. pretty simple.

  2. I just built this with a small wooden holder for my nook or a paperback -shaped something like this: \_, . I saw online too that this wasn’t supposed to be available in California, but I just picked up two at the West Sacramento store yesterday. Great hack – thanks for the idea.

  3. It is a wonderful idea but since Ikea doesn’t sell this lamp in California, I cannot try this idea. 🙁

  4. One can set the kindle to ‘read’ and then adjust the volume to zero – it will automatically turn the pages. You still have to adjust and stop etc. but is serves as a semi-automatic reader.

  5. I think this is a spring problem and not a frame problem for heavier devices like the ipad…

    For a spring problem, you could try either “shortening” the springs, add rubber bands next to the springs to add support, or buying stronger springs.

    (To “shorten” a spring, take a small piece of wire and tie a section together so it can’t stretch)

  6. i’m also interested in attaching an ipad2. it weighs about 600g. Any thoughts on if this needs some adaptation to work properly? Maybe increase the tension on the arm joints?

  9. Hi Inma, the easiest way is to use Bluetooth, which is rare for e-ink readers. However, most small tablet has bluetooth.. So something like the upcoming Nexus 7 + cheap Bluetooth mouse would be perfect for hands free reading or browsing 🙂
