Hackers Help: Poang footstool to snack table?

I looked for a hack for the Poang footstool to turn it into a snack/drink table but didn’t find anything on the site. Maybe a angled base and a fitted top of some sort?

Is there one and I missed it? Any ideas how to hack one?

I live in a travel trailer and having my furniture do more than one function is a plus.

  1. Long update.

    I’ve done a little experimenting and have worked out the right added height for my footrest to make the broad surface level: 2.25 inches. Yours may vary.
    I took a 2 X 4 [actual size 1.5″ X3.5″] and cut it into a square block 3.5″ X 3.5 X 1.5″. I then cut a 1 X 4 [actual size .75″ X 3.5″] into a square.
    I glued the two pieces together into a sandwich 2.25″ tall.
    I did this again and ended up with 2 blocks which I spray painted flat black.
    I remove the stool’s cushion. I place blocks under the low end legs of my stool and the broad, flat surface is is flat and level. I just have to find a tray that will fit inside the over-arching top portions of the legs.

    Serendipitous finding!
    If you remove the plastic curved guards on the front of the legs and place the blocks under the far ends of the Poang Chair legs, the chair will be raised into what I call a “work position”. It is easier to read or work on the lap top as I am doing now.
    For TV and movie use, just remove the blocks.
    Watch out, without the plastic leg guards, the chair has a tendency to tip forward as you get out.

    One more thing.
    When I have the Poang in the “normal” position, I sometimes place the blocks under the long legs of the stool. That way there is no gap between the Poang chair cushion and foot stool cushion.

    I’d add a picture of the blocks but I can’t find a way to do that now. Ehh! They’re just 2.25 inch tall blocks.

  5. Thanks for the suggestions.
    I’m thinking now that this might be a job for a under-used 3D printer.
    Maybe some leg-extension-cups to make the stool stand flat and then a serving tray on top of some sort who’s color would go with the medium brown finish on stool.
    Will let the community know what I end up doing.

  9. Why hack it at all? I have a footstool that I just put a serving tray on top of. That way, when I need a footstool I remove the serving tray and I have a footstool, and when I need a snack table I put the serving tray back on and any crumbs and spills go in the serving tray, which is easily washable. You’d need to screw something to the bottom of one side of the tray in order for it to be level when on the stool so you have something that looks L-shaped when viewed from the side. LÄMPLIG seems like it might work for this nicely as it has an L-shape, is roughly the right size and will double as a functional cutting board. A KLACK with a self-made V-shaped soft cushion attached underneath (the foam from a VYSSA SLAPPNA is perfect for that kind of projects) might double as a BRADA-like laptop table that you can use to sit a small laptop or tablet in your lap comfortably.

  10. Ours gets used as a table frequently, and I even used to have the kids sit on the floor with their legs under it when they were younger. Only downside is the slight angle of the top. Attach a small prop under the low side of a tray, cutting board, or equivalent

  12. Hi Rod,

    maybeyou could glue four rubber stopper (from inlineskates or so) to a board. I think of used ones, should be big enough to compensate the hight. You can sharp thesse things easily with a kitchenknife and you don´t need to screw around ;).
    Hope you know how i mean it, in my head it is percfectly clear how to do it 😀

  21. I would love to know, too! I have a Poang footstool that ended up taking a lot of space and not being as comfy as I thought it’d be. I’d love to convert mine.
