Hackers Help: Ekby Tore Alternative?

I am looking for a way to attach a floating shelf to a Linnmon table, usually I would use an Ekby Tore but they have been discontinued! Any ideas?

  1. Possible alternatives:
    -Capita legs or brackets (legs aren’t “floating”, brackets require drilling into the table & shelf.) I’m using the brackets on my own desk, but it’s a GERTON which is solid wood, not paper-filled.
    -Iron Pipes for vertical support, use beam clamps or other hardware store wares to clamp to desktop
    -Ready-Made: office furniture supplies will have some pre-fab options for monitor/riser style shelving

  2. Disappointing news of useful item discontinuation. I had 3 of them waiting to be returned, but will probably hoard them now.

    A few ideas to achieve a similar result, sadly all with caveats:
    1) Ikea Capita legs -or- brackets:
    -Legs: if you just want a step up shelf, and don’t mind the legs, this is the simplest, and there are probably hundreds of examples on the site to review.
    -Brackets: Will allow more of a floating look (technically cantilevered?) if you put the brackets facing the right way… But only if you don’t mind drilling through the Linnmon (but beware, the inner stucture is honeycomb paper, I’d suggest adding a wider steel plate or some big washers to reinforce it if you plan on putting any real weight on the shelf above). I’m using this hack for my desk, but I used the Gerton which is solid wood, so it’s more secure.
    2) If you don’t require it to be exclusive to Ikea parts, you can try some small diameter iron/steel pipes attached to a small shelf, and then put some hardware clamp or beam clamp to secure it to the desktop.

  3. I had Ekby Tore shelf bars and they were not very stable. This is probably the reason why they are discontinued. Maybe consider Capita bracket.
