We recently completed a hack of IKEA Minnen Beds.
IKEA Components used include:
- 2 x Minnen beds in Black
- 2 x 4 box Kallax shelves
- 2 x Aggplanta Planter pots
- 3 x Fintorp rails
- 2 x Hektar clamp lights
- 1 x Soder light
The major hack of this creation was turning the Minnens into a dual sized set of bunks.
We have 4 daughters and will mirror the same on the opposite side of the room although we will have a cot at the bottom for now.
Legs were removed from the top bunk and we engineered a top bunk base anchored into the wall.
We used to Kallax shelves at one end to serve as dual extra support and storage.
Kallax drawer inserts were decoupaged in contrasting wallpaper and shelves and cupboard inserts given beautiful handles to complement the Minnen beds.
We used the Aggplanta plant holders as bedside shelves for the girls to keep a few little goodies and added Hektar spotlights as bedside lamps.
We made the ladder and frame from recycled timber we had laying around and finished the look with Fintorp kitchen rails to set off the look.
We may add a curtain they can use in the rails down the track and they can use the bottom bed as a cubby house.
The final hack in the room was simply spray painting up the nickel plated Soder Chandelier in black enamel to fit in with the colour scheme.
All in all we are very happy with the results- and the girls will bed hop from the smaller to larger beds in their dormitory as the grow. ????
