IKEA items: 2 – 1×1 EXPEDIT cubes
Our 3 kids needed a playroom. They also needed a space where they could draw, work, or just snack and at a square table, they just kept getting in each other’s space.
I used a 3/4″ thick piece of scrap wood (pine I think). 8′ long by 17″ deep. This gave it a bit of an overhang at the front of the EXPEDIT shelves.
I rounded the corners, sanded, stained to match the floor (as close as I could get it), and sealed.
While at Lowes, I picked up 2 standard table legs and brackets, chopped them down to size, and painted them white to match the EXPEDIT. This gave the support needed for when my middle child climbs up on it.
I drilled out and countersunk holes for the original bolts from the EXPEDIT. They still grab the boxes firmly and the whole thing is insanely solid!
Going to change up the chairs at some point but for now, it should work quite nicely!
