I’m very happy to unveil the brand new look for IKEAhackers. The previous site had a few things broken, and many of you have written to me about them. I’ve heard every one of your comments and tried to include as many of these changes as possible. But redesigns are like tech. They go obsolete the moment you launch them. So, the site will always be a work in progress, and do share your thoughts on the new look, so we can constantly improve.
One of the most requested items was to make hacks more searchable. The “search” icon at the navigation bar launches a pretty nifty search bar, and you’ll be able to see the results even as you type your search terms.
This is one of my favorite new features. And I love how quickly results turn up. Go on. Search like there’s no tomorrow.
I’ve added a “What’s Next?” section to help you get to the various sections of the site faster. We’re all busy people, aren’t we? No time to waste. Chop. Chop. I’m also going old school with the submission of hacks, ideas, and hackers’ help questions. All you need to do is email them to me, and I’ll do the rest. Many have expressed frustration with the WordPress backend of the old site, and yes, it was a snake pit. Images went missing. Text not submitted. And all sorts of lethal stuff. So, let’s do it the old-fashioned way — email. I’ve also made a submission checklist to guide you through your hack submission. I hope that helps.
For those who still prefer a blog-style list view instead of grid sections, I’ve good news! I’ve added a “Switch to Blog View” button (below my welcome note). Click it, and you’ll be able to read all IKEAhackers posts as they come in.
Those are the major changes; the rest is pretty much standard. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
