Mid-century modern trends prove that good design never goes out of style. That’s why it’s so easy to find the aesthetic in current pieces.
Many of today’s furniture retailers feature items that blend timeless charm with contemporary touches.
Likewise, a large number of IKEA pieces align with mid-century modern design, thanks to qualities such as clean lines and practical functionality.
However, designers of these pieces take things a step further, reimagining them to meet the needs of today’s consumers while maintaining a sleek, retro vibe.
Another distinctive quality of mid-century modern furniture? The legs. Tapered, hairpin, splayed, peg, the list goes on and on when it comes to different leg styles.
IKEA has tapped into this iconic characteristic, offering three leggy cabinets that bring a dash of MCM style to your home.
3 Tall Cabinets That Bring Mid-Century Modern Style to New Heights
1. The SÅGMÄSTARE Cabinet

The legs of the SÅGMÄSTARE cabinet tend to have a more traditional silhouette, but the cabinet itself delivers strong MCM flavor. The mix of the two styles balances nicely, providing a piece that fits into a variety of design schemes.
The metal cabinet is sturdy, but the light gray-blue color keeps things soft and inviting. The bi-fold doors offer a space-saving way to hide things away, while the open space on top provides an ample display area. The cabinet also has adjustable feet, making it easy to keep things level on uneven flooring.
2. STOCKHOLM 2025 Cabinet

The streamlined STOCKHOLM 2025 cabinet with two doors showcases classic Scandinavian design, which shares many qualities with the MCM style. Adjustable shelves, soft-close doors, and locks make this an excellent storage option for items you want to keep safe and sound.
This cabinet also has adjustable feet so you can keep it level. Choose from a dark brown finish or a light oak veneer, or go with the bold green to lean toward a more modern aesthetic.
3. RUDSTA Glass-Door Cabinet

The slim RUDSTA glass-door cabinet stands 61 inches tall and offers multiple ways to show off your favorite things. Use magnets to attach photos or artwork to the back wall, keep collectibles dust-free behind the glass doors, and store larger items on the open bottom shelf.
The cabinet also has adjustable feet and a spot to add a padlock if you need to secure valuable items. There’s also integrated cable management, making it easy to add lighting to the cabinet’s interior.
Want to Make Your Own Leggy Cabinet? Check Out This Hack!

Karolina Zagrodzka needed to do something with the boring, blank wall between her kitchen and dining room. A logical solution would be a china cabinet or something similar to display glassware, ceramics, and similar items.
Therefore, she set her sights on the IKEA MALSJÖ cabinet. The striking cabinet already had the glass front and sides that make it a perfect display piece. But it didn’t have the height Karolina was looking for to fill the expansive wall space. Instead of looking for something else, Karolina decided it was time for a hack.
She gave the piece an entirely different look by adding legs to the MALSJÖ cabinet. She added framing to the bottom of the cabinet base, then added four long pieces of timber to create legs. The result is a tall, striking glass cabinet that adds decorative storage and an elegant edge to your overall design.
