In July, IKEAhackers reported a sneak peek of the 2-years in the making IKEA-LEGO BYGGLEK collaboration.
Now we have something more definitive.
Yes, folks, the IKEA BYGGLEK will hit IKEA stores in Europe and the USA on Oct 1, 2020. Mark that date, because they will sell out fast.
The BYGGLEK collection consists of four different products: one set of three small boxes, a large and medium box, and one set of LEGO bricks to kick-start the playful experience.
BYGGLEK can be used with any existing and future LEGO elements, as the studs used on the lid and front are part of the LEGO System in Play. The boxes retail from $9.99 upwards.
The BYGGLEK is one of the biggest molded items in LEGO history and is made out of the same material as LEGO bricks. Which means they are made to last for a long time.
LEGO play starters
The 201 piece LEGO brick set are play starters help your imagination. IKEA added some food items and minifigures to create a ‘Life at Home’ theme. Check out the hotdog!
But the BYGGLEK is much more than a box
It is a fun and clever storage solution that creates more room for play. With the LEGO studs on the top and the front, children can integrate the storage boxes as part of their LEGO builds. In essence, the boxes are giant bricks to house and display smaller bricks. Genius!
Kids can build inside, outside, or around BYGGLEK. They can connect several boxes together to create their LEGO world. And when it’s time to clean up, their creative worlds don’t have to be taken apart. Kids can display the boxes, pausing their stories for later. The creativity continues, and it’s easy to pick up the play again and again.
Play, display, replay
“Where adults often see a mess, children see a stimulating, creative environment, and BYGGLEK will help bridge the gap between these two views to ensure more creative play in homes around the world. Plus, the BYGGLEK collection seamlessly fits in with other IKEA products, making it possible for your child’s creativity to become a unique piece of decor at home,” said Andreas Fredriksson, designer at IKEA of Sweden. “
Speaking about the creative solution, Rasmus Buch Løgstrup, designer at the LEGO Group said, “BYGGLEK is more than boxes. It is storage and play intertwined. BYGGLEK provides families with a product range that helps create space for more play in their everyday – fuelling creativity and making it possible to have more fun together. It’s a possibility to play, display the cool creations, and return to it to replay, remake, recreate or start over. BYGGLEK is all about endless possibilities, just like the LEGO System in Play.”
