IKEA has just announced an exciting new launch that will delight crafters and IKEA hackers who like to sew. The TYG collection, featuring 20 vibrant fabric patterns, will hit select IKEA stores in July 2024.

TYG (Swedish for “fabric”) features 20 bold patterns created by 13 diverse designers, each pre-cut into convenient 3-meter lengths. These vibrant textiles blend Scandinavian modern design with playful, eye-catching motifs that are sure to spark your imagination.

Marie Olsson, Range Area Manager for Home Textiles & Rugs at IKEA of Sweden AB, shares her enthusiasm: “At IKEA, our identity is deeply intertwined with textiles. Historically, we are recognized for our patterns and textiles, which have a long-standing heritage of bold expressions that tell stories. The new TYG collection continues that journey with many inspirational expressions from the 13 designers involved in the project.”

Pre-cut For Convenience

The convenient pre-cut length makes it easier for people to purchase the fabric both online and in-store. Shoppers can pick up a pack of fabrics as easily as they do a BILLY or KROKEN without the need to request a textile-cutting service for current fabric rolls.

Made from 100% cotton, these pre-cut fabrics can be machine-washed and ironed. The vibrant Scandinavian colors and patterns make them perfect for that necessary pop of color on home decor. From cushion covers to curtains, tablecloths to tote bags, the possibilities are bright.

But TYG is not just about individual creativity; it’s also about togetherness. IKEA hopes to celebrate the collective aspect of handcrafting—bringing people together to share interests and skills. Whether you’re sewing with family, quilting with friends, or crafting with your community, TYG offers a versatile medium that honors the rich traditions of sewing and quilting across diverse cultures.

In addition to the 16 long-term patterns available for 24 months, the TYG collection will also feature 4 additional patterns supporting seasonal drops in the latter half of 2024. This means there will always be something fresh and exciting to look forward to, keeping your creative projects in sync with the changing seasons.

Marie Olsson sums it up perfectly: “TYG expresses the IKEA way ‘You can do it’ in a playful manner. We did our part as creators of this collection, and we invite you to continue the creation journey.”
