“I am wanting to put together a makeup station for my daughter’s room (like the picture) but using the MALM chest of 3 drawers on either end.

Has anyone done this?
If so what did you use as a ‘table top’ or any suggestions would be great. The depth of the chest of drawers is 48cm (18 7/8 “).”

Hi Laura,
The items in the picture are definitely a LINNMON tabletop, on top of ALEX drawer units. I made a visual of possible items to recreate the makeup vanity below.

However, as you mentioned the LINNMON and ALEX combo at 60cm (22 7/8″) is a bit too deep for your space.

I understand why you would want to use a MALM 3-drawer chest to prop up the table top instead. It’s lovely as a desk like this one here.

The countertop that goes with the depth of the MALM, without any modifications, would be the TOLKEN from the bathroom department.
It’s 49 cm (19 1/4″) deep. One cm overhang, perfect!
It also comes in a few lengths. In the UK, the longest one seems to be 102cm. The US store sells a 140cm (55 7/8″) version. So check in stores to be sure.

I love the bamboo finish. IKEA also carries the range in marble effect, white and anthracite. (See the TOLKEN range here)
To pair with the MALM chest (80 cm length) and if you’re stuck with the 102 cm long TOLKEN, you can combine a 62cm TOLKEN with a 102cm countertop to get a longer table top. Like so:

Screw in from under the MALM top to secure the TOLKEN sections to the dresser.
Here’s a tutorial for the Hollywood mirror. The hack was for a full length mirror but it should work for a shorter one. If you rather not tinker with bulbs and cable, get a ready made one on Amazon. Lots of options here.
There! I hope this helps in creating a makeup station for your daughter. Keep us posted on the progress.
Happy hacking,
Jules
